Talk duration: The Spotlight session will feature three early-career scientists, each delivering a 2-minute pitch to the audience. Your 2-minute pitch should show delegates exactly why they should vote to see your full 10-minute talk in the Auditorium the following day, with a teaser of the exciting work you will be presenting. As London Calling 2026 brings together a wide range of research areas, it is important to keep your pitch and your full talk broad to ensure anyone can follow the science you are presenting. Previous pitches have featured a theft in Hobbiton, why MinION is like a mobile phone, and even a poem about Bordetella pertussis. You can find some previous examples of Spotlight pitches here
Presentation format: All three Spotlight session participants will deliver their full talks on site at the conference. The winner will present their full 10-minute talk on the main stage. The two runners-up will present their full talks too during a separate session later in the day
